What can be used to control vines in sugarcane fields this season?

Growers – are you battling vines in your sugarcane?

The sugarcane industry has a number of these weed pests to challenge growers including pink and red convolvulus, bellvine, stinking passion fruit vine, morning glory, calopo, centro and Balsam pear.

SRA Weed Scientist Emilie Fillols knows the problems these vines can cause if allowed to mature and take over a crop of cane.

She has put together a handy guide of options for controlling vines this season (see table below), that also highlights some of the current downwind buffer zone restrictions with some products.

This table shows some knockdown herbicide options available to control vines this 2026 season and highlights some of the downwind buffer zone restrictions. Refer to individual product labels for additional information.
