Come and view the Demonstrations

  • NIR Chemists will demonstrate the handheld Near Infrared (NIR) device used for cane maturity and nutrient determination.
  • CANEGROWERS’ Smartcane BMP Facilitator, Tracy Jensen will answer questions about Smartcane Best Management Practice Program.
  • SRA General Manager Variety Development, Dr Garry Rosewarne, will be available to answer grower questions about SRA variety performance, product profiles and the future variety development pipeline.
  • SRA Southern Plant Breeder, Alison Jensen will be available to discuss and show new varieties in the pipeline for Southern District.
  • Bundaberg Sugar Services’ Lily Schipper will be available to discuss the one eye sett propagation program.
  • Dan O’Connor from DPI will demonstrate the SPLAT tool for legume nitrogen decision-making and discuss practical crop
  • SRA Entomology Leader, Dr Kevin Powell will be available for grower discussions on pest concerns, including
    soldier fly, and emerging biosecurity threats.
  • SRA Manager Biosecurity and Disease Screening, Dr Shamsul Bhuiyan will be available to discuss the current Fiji Leaf Gall eradication project and issues with fungal diseases.Hear the Presentations and speak with experts

Growers across the region are warmly invited to attend the SRA Southern District Field Day. This practical, on-the-ground event will combine scheduled research updates with plenty of time for informal conversations and Q&A with SRA subject matter specialists and industry partners.
• Short presentations, demonstrations, displays and guided station activities
• Hear what’s happening in current research investments
• See new technologies in action
• Discuss challenges and opportunities you’re facing on-farm
• Topics will cover priority areas such as pest and disease management, water management, harvesting, variety development and emerging tools

It’s also a great chance to catch up with other growers from across the Burnett Mary region, share insights and experiences, and reconnect with the local industry network.
