An introduction to the soil reference booklet and app

Booklet: Soil-Specific Nutrient Management Guidelines for Sugarcane Production in the Wet Tropics

The soils described in this booklet are located in the sugarcane areas that supply sugarcane to the Tully, South Johnstone and Mulgrave mills. The overall area extends from Cardwell in the south to the Daintree in the north.

App: Wet Tropics Sugarcane Soil Explorer User Guide

Designed to complement the new Soil-Specific Nutrient Management Guidelines For Sugarcane Production In The Wet Tropics, the Wet Tropics Sugarcane Soil Explorer can be accessed by users by logging into ArcGIS Earth and using the application to view soil survey information and soil type changes across the Wet Tropics. The viewing experience can be enhanced by loading KML cane block files into the ArcGIS Earth view and seeing an overlay of cane paddocks and their corresponding soil types. There are several methods that to access the Wet Tropics Sugarcane Soil Explorer tool. The recommended method is to download and install the “ArcGIS Earth” software on your chosen device (either laptop, PC, tablet or smartphone). About the Soil Reference Booklet and its authors

Dr Bernard Schroeder is Professor (Farming Systems) within the Centre for Agricultural Engineering (CAE) at the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) in Toowoomba. Dr Danielle Skocaj is a Principal Research Agronomist with Sugar Research Australia (SRA) based at Tully. David Calcino spent his 40-year career with BSES/SRA focusing on the extension and implementation of research outputs to canegrowers.
