Manager Biosecurity and Disease Screening

Dr Shamsul Bhuiyan has been working with SRA for over 12 years. He leads the sugarcane disease screening program and the pathology service for the Southern Region sugar industry. He pioneered smut and nematode screening and research at SRA, and developed improved screening methods for sugarcane smut, red rot and nematodes. He has published over 70 scientific peer-reviewed papers and two book chapters.
He is the joint winner of the SRDC Team Innovation Award (2010) and the ASSCT President’s Medal.

Dr Bhuiyan is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Queensland Micro- and Nanotechnology Centre, Griffith University. Prior to SRA, Dr Bhuiyan worked as a Senior Plant Pathologist with the NT Government.
