Sugar Research Australia seeks Non-Executive Directors for appointment at 2025 AGM

Australia’s sugarcane industry research and development organisation, Sugar Research Australia Limited (SRA), will appoint up to three Non-Executive Directors to join its Board at the Annual General Meeting in November.

SRA is an industry-owned company dedicated to investing in a portfolio of research, development, and adoption projects. One of Australia’s 15 Research and Development Corporations (RDCs), SRA is responsible for driving productivity, profitability, and sustainability for the sugarcane industry.

Directors Selection Committee Chair, Mary Corbett, is encouraging experienced individuals to consider joining the SRA Board as a Non-Executive Director.

“SRA’s Board plays a fundamental role in shaping the future of the Australian sugar industry,” Ms Corbett said. “The organisation is committed to driving innovation and excellence in the local sugarcane industry through strategic research and development initiatives.”

Governed by a skills-based board of seven directors, the majority of whom are independent, SRA’s Board is focussed on approving strategic and operating plans, reviewing company performance, and acting on expert advice from the SRA Research Funding Panel for contestable investments.

The Directors Selection Committee is specifically seeking up to three experienced Non-Executive Directors with an innovative, expansive mindset and specialist expertise and knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

  • National and international research and development and technology transfer
  • Pathways for the optimum adoption of research outcomes for potential commercialisation
  • How to facilitate the adoption of research outcomes and their translation into commercially viable products, services or practices for the industry
  • Administration, prioritisation, oversight and monitoring of research and development which includes executive and/or board experience in this area and an understanding of benefits of economic analysis in relation to R&D projects
  • Executive and/or board experience in financial accounting and reporting, risk (including cyber security) and internal controls, particularly within an R&D or similar environment, and
  • Proven strategic leadership developing, implementing and constructively challenging plans of action, ensuring SRA remains adaptive, future-focused, and accountable.

The successful candidates will be Graduates of the Australian Institute of Company Directors’ Course (or equivalent), or willing to undertake the AICD Course. Directors are remunerated by way of a fixed annual fee. Reasonable Board-related expenses are met by the company. Directors will be appointed for a maximum term of up to three years.
