Know and Show Your Carbon Footprint
Know and Show Your Carbon Footprint is a cross-commodity digital solution empowering growers to estimate their enterprise’s carbon footprint using a standardised approach. This initiative includes an easily accessible platform to provide growers with insights and a better understanding of baseline carbon emissions and residual footprints across their entire enterprise.
The platform is designed to overcome various challenges, simplifying, and streamlining the process of carbon accounting at the farm level. Sugarcane growers who have already used the platform say it is useful in their operations.
Objectives
AIA has digitised and aggregated the existing Greenhouse Accounting Framework (GAF) calculators and other calculators into a common, scalable, web-based platform (Platform).
The AIA Environmental Accounting Platform (EAP) now offers carbon calculations across 15 agricultural commodities, including sugar, grains, beef, sheep, cotton, pork, feedlot, poultry, eggs, wild sea fisheries, goat, buffalo, deer. Dairy and horticulture were included in December 2024 with aquaculture and wine underway and ongoing industry engagement to incorporate rice and forestry calculators.
The aim of the Platform is to:
• Provide industry-wide access to consistent, standardised carbon accounting frameworks, with functionality and data pipelines that minimise administrative and data entry overheads.
• Feature self-contained, modular calculators to ensure extensibility and enable new sector-specific calculators and other accounting frameworks to be added incrementally over time as they become available or as local and international standards emerge and evolve.
• Allow improvements to the calculators and updates to their underlying reference data and algorithms to coexist, allowing parallel reporting relative to past, current, and emerging models and standards.
• Produce reports providing both sector-specific carbon accounting and whole-of-farm aggregated carbon footprint outputs.

Expected Outputs
Expected outputs for this project have been met and a digital carbon footprint platform for sugarcane and other agricultural commodities has been produced.
Expected Outcomes
The expected outcomes have been achieved: growers who have used this platform say they are able to estimate their enterprise’s carbon footprint and make better informed decisions to reduce emissions and capture new opportunities.
