Tissue Culture Calculator
The online tissue calculator for growers demonstrates the speed at which large quantities of planting material can be produced from a set number of plantlets or for a set cost. View the Calculator page.
Wet Tropics Soil Specific Nutrient Management Guidelines & Sugarcane Explorer App
SRA presents guidelines aimed at soil-specific nutrient management for growers in the greater Wet Tropics region inclusive of the Tully, South Johnstone, Mulgrave and Mossman districts. Access both these resources here.
Pl@ntNet App
Pl@ntNet is a new App empowering sugarcane growers to easily identify weeds. Pl@ntNet is a citizen science platform available as a free app that uses automated recognition technology to identify plants, by uploading images onto the platform. Watch the short tutorial video to learn more about this app, then download it for use and get started. Pl@ntNet App page.
Harvest Mate App
Harvest Mate is a free web-based portal and app for Australian sugarcane growers and harvesting contractors aimed at enhancing cane and sugar yields. Users can potentially achieve an average yield increase of 5%, translating to an additional $116 per hectare after costs. The platform allows easy data entry by contractors to predict optimal harvest practices, while assessing economic benefits based on revenue and cost comparisons. Users can create an account, verify their email, and download the app from the Apple or Google Play Store. Learn more about this app and its benefits here on our Harvest Mate web page.
CogCalibrator
The CogCalibrator is an online tool created by Sugar Research Australia to help sugarcane growers accurately calibrate their cog-driven fertiliser applicators. It simplifies the calibration process, ensuring the correct amount of fertiliser is applied for optimal crop growth while minimising waste. The tool is easily accessible and integrates with broader nutritional planning strategies, enhancing fertiliser efficiency and sustainability in the sugarcane industry. Link: CogCalibrator
Free training course: SIX EASY STEPS® Online Sugarcane Nutrient Management Program
SRA’s Online Sugarcane Nutrient Management training course is based on the SIX EASY STEPS® workshops and has been developed for sugarcane growers who want to refresh or up-skill their knowledge of nutrient management for sustainable sugarcane production. Australian sugarcane growers can get started now with this free training. Register here: Sugar Research Australia
eLibrary
Sugar Research Australia’s eLibrary provides free online access to a growing collection of research reports and publications related to the sugar industry, with some documents restricted due to copyright. The content is organised into communities and collections based on SRA’s eight Key Focus Areas. Recent submissions include studies on soil health benchmarking in Central Queensland, greenhouse gas accounting guidance for agricultural sectors, and the use of digital soil mapping to enhance crop yield and minimise environmental impact. Managing Flood Cane
Following the significant flood events across Far North Queensland, a series of workshops were held to support the sharing of information between researchers and growers. These workshops provided the opportunity for SRA researchers to answer questions where needed and for growers to share feedback on practices that were helping overcome the impacts from these events. Learnings from these floods can help prepare for or identify strategies to minimise the impact of future flood events. Links: Read the FAQs / View Fact Sheet Managing Flood Cane
