ABOUT THE ROLE

The Weed Management Technician is based at the Burdekin site and provides help and support with the farming activities we do to support our research. The support is mainly field based but can also include glasshouse and laboratory work. The role is focused on one research project.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Liaise with local industry bodies and growers to implement and coordinate project activities
• Operate agricultural implements to apply treatments and conduct sampling and plant health assessment in accordance with trial protocols.
• Collect, organise and format trial data in a clear and accurate manner in accordance with project requirements.
• Participate in the preparation of reports, the publication of research results and the delivery of weed management courses/training.

YOUR REQUIREMENTS

You will bring with you the following qualifications, capabilities and experience:

• Degree or Diploma level qualification in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, Environmental, Biological Science or related discipline or extensive relevant experience gained in service
• Strong understanding of cropping systems.
• Practical experience in operation and maintenance of agricultural machinery, in particular tractors and sprayers.
• Competency in computer skills and high attention to detail in respect to recording data and outcomes.
• Demonstrated effective communication skills and proven autonomy and self-sufficiency to carry out activities unsupervised.
