SRA seeking targeted investment for the Australian sugarcane industry

Leading scientists, researchers and research institutions are invited to submit their Expressions of Interest (EOIs) and Tenders to undertake new research activities that will target specific productivity, profitability, and sustainability challenges of Australian sugarcane growers and millers.

General Manager for SRA’s Research Funding unit, Dr Harjeet Khanna, said that SRA is targeting new research investment in six specific areas identified by the SRA Board.

This targeted call for investment opens on October 24 2020 and closes on December 12 2020. The call invites:

1. Open Tenders
a. Alternatives to Imidacloprid
b. E-network for rail-based cane transport systems
c. Stepwise development of improved online sensors


2. Expressions of Interest – looking for new and emerging innovative and transformational technology for:
a. Smart Technologies for Biosecurity Surveillance
b. Sustainable control options for root feeding pests


3. Direct Commission – project to be commissioned directly to develop a tool that consolidates the decision support system generated from a pipeline of prior investments:
a. Increasing profitability through maximising cane recovery
